Trust…in Business and Life

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Thank you for returning! Don't hesitate to sign up NOW for our FREE Newsletter… "Living Beyond the Edge…of Normal!" You will experience with us what it means to truly live life as an adventure!

Yesterday I was watching my two year old play on a bench in our kitchen. I needed to grab him so that we could take one of the other kids to soccer practice. I held out my arms to grab him and told him “we need to get going.” He lunged off of the bench into my arms.

I was overwhelmed with the amount of Trust he has in me. Had I tripped or been distracted or simply didn’t care about him he would have landed on his face on the hard floor.

This got me thinking about my other relationships in life and in business. Most of the great transactions that take place in all of life are built upon the foundation of Trust to some degree or another.

The kicker though is…if you never take time to cultivate that Trust with others…you will never know what I am talking about. Trust is not something that just happens to you…it is built upon hours and years of interaction with others.

So…for example…if you have a Twitter account and never cultivate any interaction and communication with others on Twitter…your experience is going to be completely banal or worse…non-existent…and you will wonder what the big rage is with everyone talking about Twitter. You will have your 30 friends that feel obligated to become your followers but your experience is going to leave you or them no better than when you started.

In fact…I dare say…you will be a bit worse off than when you started. This is true on Facebook as well or any other sites you choose to join. If you are not involved with the interactive process with others…Trust will never be built. And then you will wonder why other people talk about massive success and why you just don’t get it.

My youngest son Trusts me because I am continually interacting with him and taking care of him as good as I know how. I would say he loves me as well…but I am not sure what that means for a two year old. But…this brings up a great point as well…

We don’t need people to love us to Trust us. Many times Trust bridges the gap to love but love is not necessary to be successful in many of your relationships in Life and Business.

Of course…we would hope that our children and spouses and families and close friends love us…but even with these relationships it is probably more important to develop Trust than anything else. Trust actually creates the flow of life unhindered by bitterness and hurt feelings.

We all need to understand this if we are going to be successful business people. Oh…you could make a few bucks taking advantage of people…but in order to have long term success…Trust is King!

Here are a few tips to build trust in your business relationships:

  • Keep your word
  • Keep in touch/stay in communication
  • Have your attitude be that of a “giver” rather than a “taker”
  • Touch people’s lives with who you are rather than a canned approach…be real
  • Be an Encourager
  • Have a personal touch rather than always talking to the “masses”

Building Trust takes some time and consistency but mostly a True Heart…being someone who actually and authentically cares about others and who is willing to serve them.

I very much would like to hear your thoughts…

Attraction Marketing…Does it Really Work?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

First of all…ATTRACTION MARKETING (at its true core) Really Has Very Little to do with Marketing…IT HAS MORE TO DO WITH LIFE!

This is the secret very few people actually know about. Many people are actively marketing their products and services using traditional methods believing they are using the secret of attraction marketing whereas what they are truly doing is hoping to attract people to their products and services because they have a positive thought or affirmation because they have read somewhere that this works!

Does thinking positive help…absolutely it does! Do making affirmations help…just ask Katie Freiling!  She has a great blog post on this here: http://katiefreiling.com/affirmations/ Affirmations work best when they are actually connected to a positive energy or feeling within yourself. The energy signature (to learn more about this see this blog post here: http://www.howtodolife.com/blog/2009/06/3levelsofheavenpart2/) that is created is the sum total of your thoughts and feelings and the physical interactions within your body such as hormones being released and all sorts of different interactions taking place. All of these things are interconnected and thus create specific energy signatures that attract like energy signatures to yourself. However, it is specifically for this reason that attraction marketing does not work from a traditional marketing concept. I will explain why this is…

Since every thought, action, feeling and interaction within your body and with your surroundings creates certain energy wavelengths or what I like to call energy signatures…the predominance of the self-interested energy involved in traditional marketing will predominantly attract self-interested people mainly wanting to market to you! This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but I have found it is better to have a better foundation than that when trying to build an interactive tribe of people who have a collective interest in each other. We have all heard the saying “the sum is greater than its parts.” This seems to be highlighted in an even greater degree in this new era of social networking!

Attraction Marketing indeed does work when you make your primary focus that of being an asset to other people. When your intentions and actions tend toward giving value to others…the type of people you attract to yourself are those who are interested in giving the same back. This type of interactive approach is far more powerful than having a “marketing” mindset…which is essentially a self-serving mindset.

Attraction Marketing does not work well if taken from the foundational mindset of “I am trying to draw people into my opportunity, or my products, or anything else that I am trying to sell.”

So, I would highly suggest to be constantly vigilant in your core motivations of why you do what you do. People know when your intentions are “for” them! But, they also know when your intentions are to “take” from them.

A genuinely giving mindset and heart is the first order of business for success at every level…

Please leave your comments…I very much would love to hear what you have to say about this!
